Hotel room as a private workplace: how an emergency solution became standard offer

After the first lockdown in March 2020, in which almost every hotel was empty, except for aid workers, healthcare workers and some stranded foreign travelers, hotels were looking for ways to get their rooms filled again. Small-scale and locally-oriented campaigns quickly emerged: a child-free workplace for local residents or corona-proof work and meeting rooms for companies around the hotel. This expanded in the months that followed, with an increasingly chain-wide approach.
